About The Texas General Counsel Forum

The Forum's mission is to facilitate communication and information sharing of best practices for legal department management among General Counsel and outside counsel and for effective communication between the legal department and executive management.

  • Formed in 1998 in Dallas as The DFW General Counsel's Management Practices Forum
  • Expanded from DFW to Texas and became The Texas General Counsel Forum in the Fall of 1999
  • Held its first Annual Corporate Counsel Conference in November 1999
Overview and Mission Statement

The Texas General Counsel Forum enters its second decade of service to in-house leadership in Texas. The Forum is a community of nearly 500 Texas general counsel and senior managing counsel representing more than 350 companies and organizations—a community that is growing. We added 100+ new members in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and expect similar growth in 2009.

The Forum strives to be the best at discovering, benchmarking and sharing best practices, and delivering them to members in a peer-to-peer community environment. No legal department—even the largest and most well-funded—knows it all. In-house innovation comes from diverse sources, and the most direct path to those solutions is from the innovators themselves.

Under the cloud of the U.S. financial crisis that will cast a shadow over legal department in 2009, the best advice will emerge in real time, month by month, from your peers. To meet that need we will host 60 meetings and events, providing a platform for sharing best practices. Rather than predicting what will work, our members will be working to invent what will work. This is the power of collaboration.

Unlike most similar organizations, our mission is advanced by Forum members partnering with valued underwriters and sponsors who share and support our mission. This partnership helps us greatly in achieving our mission to improve the professional lives of in-house leadership.
